Module Descriptor:
This module is designed to equip the learner with skills and knowledge for successful transition to and engagement in third-level education and subsequent life long learning opportunities.
Course: Bachelor of Business Year 1
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Display independent learning, reasoning and problem-solving skills by completing a project and written report on a specialisation of their choice.
- Write in formats appropriate to their chosen programme of study.
- Use information, library resources and referencing conventions.
- Develop research abilities and a knowledge of the best sources of information to include web-based materials.
- Exhibit oral and written presentation skills using technology as an aid.
TRADITIONAL ASSESSMENT
Prepare an assignment and presentation on how you can become an accountant. The journey begins in third level education and finish by you becoming a qualified accountant working in an accounting firm.
AUTHENTIC /ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENT
Part 1 – Written Document
- Listed below are some of the headings that can be used in your research.
- Identify where you are now
- Identify where you want to be (specific job / career)
- Identify how you are going to get there. (Example: Modules, Degree, work experience etc).
- Identify extra-curricular activities which you will get involved in (Example: college societies and clubs, professional body membership etc.)
Your report should be created as a word document using the following:
- Font style – Times New Roman, Font size – 12pt
- Line spacing of 1.5
- Fully justified
- Front cover with the title of your report, your name, id number, class year and group, module title and code, Lecturer name, date, and signature.
- References (Harvard Referencing style, Wikipedia is not allowed)
- You may include diagrams and images etc.
- The report should be approximately 600 words.
Part 2 – Presentation
In PowerPoint (only 1 slide for each part)
- Identify where you are now
- Identify where you want to be
- Identify how you are going to get there. (Example: Degree, Masters etc).
- Identify extra-curricular activities which you will get involved in (Example: college societies and clubs etc).
TASKS
To carry this out, the learner must choose a career specialization / specific job and explain the actions they will take which lead to their desired career path/ job. The centrepiece of the assignment is YOU - it's not a project simply on what is on offer in CIT, rather how you plan to develop yourself towards achieving your chosen career / job by accessing why it is available. Feel free to include activities outside college which can contribute to your skill- set (work experience, club, or society involvement)
